Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation

• You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) after midnight the night before surgery.
• You may brush your teeth and rinse out your mouth the morning of surgery.
• No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
• Drink no alcohol and get a good night’s rest the evening prior to surgery.
• A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and drive the patient home.
• Minors require a parent or legal guardian to be present at the time of surgery.
• Make arrangements for a responsible adult to remain with you at home to assist you with your early post-op care.
• The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
• Please wear loose fitting clothing with sleeves which can be rolled up past the elbow, and low-heeled shoes.
• Do not wear eye makeup, fingernail polish, contact lenses, or jewelry to your surgery appointment.
• If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office.
• If you take routine oral medications, please check with one of our doctors prior to your surgical date for instructions.
• If you have used cocaine, heroin, or other illicit drugs in the last 30 days, please notify our staff or doctor. Using these drugs along with our medications can lead to death!
